Grinch and Grace

#adhd #burnout #selflove Dec 23, 2023

I didn’t feel like writing this morning.
Which is pretty weird for me because I love typing my thoughts on my iPad early in the morning curled up in a quilt, tea in hand.
But today the words haven’t flowed naturally.
They’re feeling a little stuck.
I’M feeling a little stuck.

Even though we're great about having intentional easy and quiet holidays, my business has been anything but quiet.
And life has gotten lifey in some unexpected ways that are feeling a bit heavy.
Burnout is creeping on.

How will you know you’ve got burnout?

  • You’ll feel tired as in hair hurts tired.
  • Tasks that normally take 9 minutes take 9 hours.
  • You feel stuck.
  • You’re a little snippy with the person in the checkout line.
  • You have a headache or stomachache and no idea where it came from.
  • You’re a little less patient and a lot more cynical.

Hello inner Grinch!

I thought about what I would say to a coaching client in this place, in my place.
And the word Grace bubbled up bright, shiny, and magical.

When you’re feeling a little Grinchy, you need more grace.

Grace has many meanings:

  • Kindness
  • Ease of movement
  • Courteous goodwill
  • Doing honor to
  • And half a dozen more

Grace feels like the perfect Sunday morning word for a woman who was raised in the Episcopal church.
But grace transcends faith.
You can give and receive grace no matter who you are or where you’re from or what you believe, << Test First Name >>.

Today I’m giving myself grace.
I’m not going to force my way through writing or working or studying or merry making.
I’m going to rest.

Maybe I’ll turn on the tree and read a book by the fire.
Maybe I’ll make some popcorn and watch a movie with my teen, who I’ve nicknamed the sloth.
She knows how to rest!
Maybe I’ll walk the farm and feed the chickens.
Maybe I'll do a little of all three.
What I'm not going to do is get out of these pajamas any time soon.

Today I’m offering you grace.

When was the last time you stopped.
Really stopped.
And rested.
Recharged.
Refilled your well.

For today, your long to do list can wait.
You can be productive tomorrow.
In fact, if you rest/recharge/refill today, you’ll be MORE productive tomorrow.
